Virginia High advanced to the Championship game of the Southwest District Tournament with an 8-2 win over Richlands. Brody Jones pitched into the seventh inning and earned the win striking out four and issuing four bases on balls. Bhraedon Meredith closed the door in relief with seven pitches as the Bearcats turned a basses loaded double play followed by a ground out to end the game. Meredith also belted a triple to lead off the second inning and added a single to finish two for four and scored twice. Ty Weaver knocked a double and had a bunt single to also finish two for four with an RBI. Virginia High will face Marion at Devault Stadium on Saturday at 5:00 pm to decide the Tournament Championship. The Bearcats have already qualified to host Region play against an unknown opponent next Thursday if schedule stays on track.
