Virginia High edged out Richlands 9-7 in an eight inning, back and forth Southwest District matchup. The Bearcats jumped in front with three runs in the first inning but gave up two runs in the bottom half. Richlands struck for three runs in the bottom of the third and the Bearcats answered with three to maintain a 6-5 lead. VHS plated another run in the sixth but Richalnds matched that run in the bottom half. The Tornado’s leadoff man in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 7-7 with an in-the-park homer over the left fielder’s head. The Bearcats put together three hits in the eighth, including two doubles, one by Michael Roe and the other a game winning two RBI double by Brody Jones. Ty Weaver had three hits and Roe finished with two. Brody Jones came away with four RBI’s and also earned the win on the mound in relief for starter Isaac Berry.
