Bearcats Open Season With Loss To Abingdon

Virginia High opened the season on a chilly night with an 11-1 loss to Abingdon in the FCA Tournament. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsored tournament is taking place at Virginia High and Tennessee High's fields featuring local teams from Virginia and Tennessee.

Jordan Dixon took the loss on the mound for the Bearcats with six innings of work. Dixon and the Bearcat defense allowed five runs off six base hits. Relievers Jean Mulumba attempted to close out the seventh and allowed another six runs before Nolan Hoss was able to get the final out.

Virginia High scored first in the bottom half of the opening inning and managed to keep the game close before giving up three runs in the fifth. The Bearcats only managed two base hits at the plate with one being a pop fly at home that no one attempted to catch. Michael Bradley had the only solid base hit with a double in the second inning.

The Bearcats will face cross town rivla at 6:00 pm at Devault Stadium on Tuesday night in the second round of the tournament.
