Bearcats move on with 7-0 win over Carroll Co.

 

5/31/07 Virginia High moves on to the next round with a 7-0 win over Carroll County in the Region IV semi-finals at Abingdon. The Bearcats automatically qualify to move on to state quarterfinals with the win but will fight for the Region IV title against Richlands and a chance to host in the first round of state playoffs. Justin Grimm pitched four innings of no-hit baseball and also took charge at the plate with a three for three night knocking a homerun in the second, an RBI single in the third and a double in the sixth. Grimm had five strikeouts on the mound. Zak Messer  had a pair of hits and RBI's and Willie Oakes also had two hits and scored twice. VHS banged out a total of twelve hits in the contest. Preston Smith closed out the final three innings on the mound giving up two hits and striking out three.
