VHS takes Region IV win over Tazewell

 

5/29/07 VHS took their first step in Region IV tournament play with a 10-1 win over Tazewell of the Southwest District. The Bearcats belted out nine hits to dominate the Bulldogs. Virginia High scored three in the bottom of the first to get things started and added another four in the second. Starter Trey Roark held the Tazewell team scoreless before giving way to reliever Robbie Stout. Roark had five strikouts and gave up three hits while Stout had six strikeouts but gave up one earned run from a pair of hits in the sixth. Zak Messer was two for three and scored three times while  Brandon Arnold had two hits. Justin Grimm had a two RBI double in the second inning  and added another RBI in the fourth. Hunter Greer also had a double. VHS will face Carroll County, a 2-1 winner over Dan River, scheduled for 8:00pm at Abingdon on Thursday.
