Virginia High closed out the regular season and get ready for playoffs
with a 5-2 win over Abingdon. The Bearcats finished up with a spotless
record in the Highlands District and take top seed in next weeks
Highlands Tournament and also have an automatic bid to the Region IV
Tournament the following week. Pitcher Justin Grimm got the complete
game victory chalking up nine strikeouts and both Falcon runs were
unearned from three Bearcat errors. Grimm also notched a pair of hits
and scored once to help his own cause. Zak Messer celebrated Senior
Night with a double, single, two RBI's and one score. VHS took the early
lead with a run in the first inning but allowed Abingdon to tie things
up in the top of the second with miscues in the field. The Bearcats
answered back with two in the bottom half to regain the lead for good.
VHS opens Highlands District Tournament play on Tuesday at home against
Marion.
