Virginia High claimed at least a share of the Highlands District
championship with a 15-4 win over Marion. Virginia High belted out
fourteen hits against two Hurricane pitchers. Brandon Arnold provided
four hits with a  four for
four night at the plate and gave the Bearcats three RBI's. Arnold also
scored four times. Leadoff hitter Zak Messer stayed busy on the base
paths with four walks and a towering two run homerun, four stolen bases
and scoring five times. Pitcher Justin Grimm was perfect through three
innings before Marion posted a pair of hits and runs. Grimm worked five
innings and had ten strikeouts. Messer finished up on the mound giving
up his only run and hit on an RBI triple by Marion in the sixth. Messer
had four strikeouts in his two inning appearance. Hunter Greer smacked
an RBI triple in the first and an RBI double in the seventh. Greer's
sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth helped him finish up with three RBI's.
