Virginia High was humbled by future district foe John Battle with an 8-3
spanking on the Bearcat's home turf. VHS drops from VHSL AA ranks to
join the smaller single A division beginning next year and the Trojans
displayed that it does not intend to be intimidated by the Highlands
District leaders. John Battle opened the game with four solid base hits
to score two in the first inning. VHS was fortunate to hold the Trojans
to only two runs and managed to get back into the game with a score of
2-2 by the end of the second. But John Battle showed their desire to win
banging out for more hits in the third to score four and making
excellent plays in the field when needed. Battle also added two more in
the fifth with a two run blast over the left field wall by the number
nine batter. VHS never seemed to get on track with several errors during
the course of the game and also could not put together any type of rally
to threaten the rest of the game. The Bearcats scored once more with two
outs in the sixth.
