Virginia High opened up Highlands District play with a 13-5 win over
Marion. The Bearcats had eleven hits and the benefit of seven Marion
errors in the win. Brandon Arnold and Zak Messer each had a triple, a
single and an RBI for VHS at the plate while nine out of ten Bearcat
batters came away with hits. Justin Grimm got the win with five innings
of work. Grimm was tagged for seven base hits and had eight strikeouts.
Reliever Trey Roark closed out the final two innings with six straight
strikeouts to close the door on any hopes Marion had for a comeback.
Virginia High will host a pair of teams from across the Bristol border
next Wednesday and Thursday when Sullivan East and Tennessee High will
visit the Bearcats.
